John Thain could be in line for a shot at a domestic title.
The Scotsman, from Edinburgh, won on points in his latest outing, exclusively live on BoxNation.
Thain, who is of Filipino descent, advanced his record to 16-2 with one early after outpointing Nathan Brough of Liverpool, who slips to 13-2 (2 KOs) in defeat, in an eliminator for the British welterweight title at the Bellahouston Leisure Centre in Glasgow.
The current custodian of the belt is Bradley Skeete, the Penge man, who defends his crown against Shayne Singleton on October 22 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.
The fight was a close one and the scorecards, which were turned in by three scoring judges Dave Parris, Michael Alexander and Kenny Pringle, don’t tell the full story of what was at times an enthralling and extremely competitive contest.
Both fighters went out with the intention of trying to get it over and done with early, but once the realisation had hit that that wasn’t realistic, they began to go toe-to-toe.
Thain began to pull away and ‘Scene had him ahead by four rounds to two after six, but Brough battled back to give a very good account of himself, despite suffering the defeat after rather dubious scorecards of 96-94, 98-92 and 99-91 at the end of the 10 rounds.
