John Ruiz Says Antonio Margarito Should Be Banned

Former two-time heavyweight champion John Ruiz doesn't think Antonio Margarito should be allowed to box again. Margarito is likely going to be licensed to fight in the state of Texas and appeared on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey pay-per-view on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium. Margarito had his license revoked last February for a year. The punishment came down from the California State Athletic Commission over an illegal substance being found in Margarito's handwraps before the fight with Shane Mosley on January 24.

"They should not let him fight again," said John Ruiz to Primera Hora .

Ruiz, who challenges WBA heavyweight champion David Haye on April 3, doesn't like that Margarito is not standing before the commission in California to regain his license. He views the entire situation with Margarito as good example of why boxing needs proper reform.

"It's one of more serious problems in boxing, that in spite of the regulations, they are looking to bring him back. This is a sport where we put our lives at risk every time we step in the ring to fight, but regardless Texas is considering to allow a boxer back in the ring in spite of the fact that he did something very bad," Ruiz said.
