Tony Quigley wasn't the only member of his family on show at the Velodrome, Manchester on Saturday night.  His younger brother, John, made his professional bow with a third round stoppage win over Bulgaria's Boyan Aleksandrov.  John turned his back on the amateur game after getting knocked out of last year's ABAs earlier than expected, joining his two brothers under Steve Wood's VIP Promotions banner.

John (130lb) came out with a low-slung, almost nonchalant guard, hammering shots home from the southpaw and orthodox stances.  Boyan (129lb) could not deal with the punches coming his way, it came as no surprise when referee John Latham rescued the visitor at 2:06 of the third.

Boyan falls to 1-1 (0).  John now joins Tony, 13-2-1 (6), and Nick 7-0 (0), in the professional ratings.  “He was a bit cagey and I didn't want to expose myself so gave him angles to open him up before hitting him with the body shots in the third,” revealed Quigley.

“He saw didn't like them so I ripped them in.  He'd won his first one but didn't want to know so I got to him after having a look.  I timed myself, even though I trapped him on the ropes I was patient.  I can't wait to get out again, there is no pressure on because I am just starting out and learning.”

“I started off southpaw but went orthodox so can do both.  I was at the Commonwealth Youth Games and boxed in both styles depending on the opponent to win the Gold,” he said when asked if switch hitting will be a staple of his professional style.
