John Murray (25-0, 13KOs) is proving to be a rising star in the lightweight ranks, crushing Lee Meager (21-3, 8KOs) in five-rounds to win the vacant (BBBofC) British lightweight title at the Robin Park Centre, in Wigan, Lancashire.
Meager tried to his best to trade, but the firepower of Murray was too much to handle. Murray began to pepper him with power punches from the very first round and continued the assault in every round that followed, busting up Meager's face along the way. Murray landed some left hand bombs in the fifth that caused the ref to jump in and save Meager from further damage. Murray hopes to one day challenge fellow-Brit Amir Khan.
"I knew Lee was a dangerous opponent who would have knocked me out if I came in not at my best and tonight you've seen how good I can be if I'm at my best," Meager told Sky Sports 1."I know I've got the ability to go on and be world champion. It's my best victory by far, he's the toughest opponent I've faced. He put the fear of God into me because I knew if I wasn't right, he would have knocked me out."
