John Molina Jr. took to Twitter recently to announce his signing with powerful boxing adviser Al Haymon.

Molina, a former lightweight title challenger with a record of 27-3 (22 KOs), last fought in November at a bout held slightly above the junior-welterweight limit. He’s likely to move to the 140-pound division soon.

The 31-year-old from Covina, Calif., spoke briefly with BoxingScene on Feb. 13 about the Haymon signing

BoxingScene.com: Why sign with Al Haymon?

Molina: “It’s the best move. I believe Al Haymon is one of the most powerful men, if not the most powerful man in boxing, as far as making the fights that need to be made. His track record speaks for itself. The best are with him. I want to be one of the best. I’m glad I’m with him.”

BoxingScene.com: More recently, some Al Haymon fighters have been facing each other. Do you believe that this signing makes it more likely that you could face guys like Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Omar Figueroa or even Adrien Broner?

Molina: “Absolutely. I believe that those are names that could be in my near future. I’m excited about 2014.”

BoxingScene.com: Does this signing come with any promises or thoughts form him on what will be done with your career?

Molina: “No, not that I can really touch on right now. I’m going to leave it up to Al Haymon, but this is definitely a step in the right direction for the future of my career.”

BoxingScene.com: I know Haymon has a lot of his guys working with Golden Boy, though Goossen Tutor has worked with him in the past with Chris Arreola and Paul Williams? Does this signing mean that you won’t be resigning with Goossen?

Molina: “That’s yet to be determined. I still have my contractual obligations to Goossen Tutor as far as my promotional contract goes. And once we cross that bridge, I’ll be able to speak more on that.”

BoxingScene.com: Any update on when you’re back in the ring?

Molina: “Not as of now, but I know I’ll have something in the near future.”
