NEW YORK - Irish boxer John Duddy is not worried in the least that rival Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is training with renowned American trainer Freddie Roach for their fight on June 26 in San Antonio, Texas.
Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KOs) and Duddy (29-1, 18 KOs) clash in the main event of Latin Fury 15, set up by Top Rank and Promotions Zanfer at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, which will be broadcast in the United States live on Pay Per View and in Mexico by TV Azteca.
Duddy doesn't believe his rival Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will improve despite training with Freddie Roach because two months is not enough time to make real adjustments on how to fight.
"Chavez Jr. is only going to change a little. It takes people a long time to change the way they box, and Roach is not going to go in there with him in the ring to fight. It's only going to be me and him," said Duddy, who was born in Derry, Ireland.
Interviewed from his place of training at Gleasons Gym in New York, his city of residence, Duddy the claim that that there is no doubt that he will go out with his fist raised on June 26, regardless of Roach being in the corner.
"I've prepared everything for this opportunity. And not to diminish the quality of the rivals they've faced, but it will be the first time that he will have a real opponent in the ring. I will make sure to counter as much as possible, "he said. "I know how to box, but I will work from the inside. I am sure that I'm going out with the win."
