Hatton Promotion's CEO Gareth Williams has confirmed that Joe Murray will fight on the undercard of John Murray's October 25th EBU lightweight title tussle; John fights Andriy Kudriavtsev in the maiden defence of the belt he won by defeating Gary Buckland in May of this year. Barry Hearn's Matchroom Promotions are staging the bill and Joe, 23, will fight an as yet unnamed foe.
Murray went to the 2008 Games in Beijing but lost out by a 7-17 margin to Gu Yu of China; the fighter has since raced to 7-0 (3) as a pro and has been tipped for big things by Ricky Hatton, who believes that his company signed one of the hottest prospects in British boxing when they inked a deal for the young featherweight. Joe, nicknamed 'Genius', is delighted to be sharing a bill with his older brother, he believes that their family and friends will create a great atmosphere on the night.
Indeed, October 25th will be a busy date for Hatton Promotion's protégés, Scott Quigg takes on Nelson Daniel Monte for the vacant WBA International super-bantamweight title at the Castle Leisure Centre, Bury as the 19-0 (13) closes out a fabulous 2010, a year which has seen the 21-year-old prospect score three stoppages, over Mykyta Lukin, Andrey Kostin and Gavin Reid respectively, and break into the upper echelons of the domestic and EBU 122lb rankings. Scott is ranked at #3 in the EBU's latest ratings and is closing in on the major titles.
