According to a report by media outlet Sports Network, unbeaten heavyweight contender "Baby" Joe Mesi is targeting a showdown with former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield.
First Holyfield would have to get by WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov on Oct. 13 in Moscow, Russia. The Mesi camp will be watching the fight and banking on Holyfield to break his own record by become the champion for the fifth time.
"That's a fight we'll definitely be watching and we'll be hoping (Holyfield) wins, no question," said Mesi's father and manager, Jack, to Sports Network. "He's the biggest name out there and that’s a fight we'd be interested in making if things work out for him."
Jack Mesi revealed that minor discussions were held in the past, regarding a bout between his son and Holyfield. "Baby" Joe is recovering from a back injury that caused him to recently pull out from his Aug. 18 bout with Sherman Williams.
Mesi is expected to return to the ring in October at the earliest.
