Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom indicates that there is a possibility that the winner of the upcoming fight between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington could be matched against Joe Cordina.
Wood defends his WBA featherweight title against Warrington on October 8 at Sheffield's Utility Arena.
Cordina is the IBF's world champion at super featherweight.
"I spoke to Joe yesterday and he's up for it," said Hearn to BBC Sport.
"Josh and Leigh just want big fights - that's what motivates them. Once you see the build-up and the city support behind them, everyone - especially the fighters - know what's on the line and they'll fight with pride."
Wood is coming off his finest performance, after gaining revenge by dominating Mauricio Lara over twelve rounds to reclaim the WBA strap. Lara had knocked Wood out in February. Lara had failed to make weight for the rematch and entered the ring as much bigger man, but it made no difference.
"In the Lara rematch I felt sharp in between my ears and physically. I feel those fights, with tiny little breaks while still training, has put me in a good position," said Wood.
Warrington will be looking for redemption.
He's been out of the ring since losing his IBF title to Mexico's Luis Alberto Lopez last December.
Despite the stretch of inactivity, Warrington is not worried about ring rust. He strongly believes that a victory will lead him to much bigger goals and opportunities in the coming future.
"Noone ever thought I'd win a commonwealth title, let alone be a two-time world champion," said Warrington.
"So why can't I dream more? Why can't I dream to be a unified champion? To become a two-weight champion or treat my fans to a Las Vegas fight week?"
