Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has not given up on a potential rematch between Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins. Their fight in April 2008 saw Calzaghe get knocked down in the first round, but he staged a workman-like rally in the late rounds to win a close split decision. Calzaghe retired early last year. Hopkins has won three times since the loss, and that includes one-sided wins over Kelly Pavlik and Roy Jones Jr.

"I'm going to be going to Europe in a couple of weeks and [I'll] try to sit down with Joe and see what's up. Because if he's going to want to fight, then I think that it should be sooner rather than later. If not, then he certainly deserves his retirement, being undefeated," said Schaefer.

"[Bernard] would be interested, yes. I'm going to be talking to Bernard and with Joe, and we'll see what's going to happen. Joe expressed that he would be interested in Hopkins, but I mean, there are a number of good fights out there."
