According to overseas reports, the September 20th battle with Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) will be the final bout of Joe Calzaghe's (45-0, 32 KOs) career. The event will be New York bound, taking place at Madison Square Garden and promoted by Jones' Square Ring Promotions and Joe Calzaghe Enterprises.
Last year, Calzaghe said that he would only fight two more times in 2008 and then retire. After beating Bernard Hopkins in April, he was undecided as to his future and whether or not he would stay true to his 07 promise. He made his decision three-weeks ago when he broke away from longtime promoter Frank Warren and disclosed plans to build up Joe Calzaghe Enterprises.
Based on recent interviews, Joe doesn't see his career moving past the fight with Jones. Then again, don't rule out the possibility of a rematch. There are rumors circulating of a rematch clause in the Calzaghe-Jones fight contract. The exact details of the clause are uknown.
Jones on the other hand has said that if he beats Calzaghe, he plans to move back up to the heavyweight division to challenge WBC champion Samuel Peter, should Peter beat Vitali Klitschko on October 4.
