It was reported by the Daily Mail newspaper that undefeated super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe is targeting in the defense record of legendary heavyweight champion Joe Louis.

Louis holds the record for the most consecutive title defenses by a champion, with the number being 25. Calzaghe has already defended his super middleweight title 18 times, and has said that that he will even hold offon  retirement in order to break Louis' record.

"My ideal strategy would be to fight this fight, knock the guy out (Bika), and fight three times in 2007, but then Frank said that the most defenses by any champion is Joe Louis with 25. I'm close to doing something remarkable," Calzaghe explained. "I'm nine years into my reign now. Maybe I can get to a decade, 25 defenses and create a little bit of history."

Calzaghe told the paper that the reason he is still an undefeated champion is because he takes every single opponent serious.

"I don't feel invincible. That's one of my attributes as a champion. "I'd never take any opponent lightly. That's my secret."
