Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale (19-1, 13KOs) is aggressively pursuing a fight with IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs).
DeGale is the IBF's mandatory challenger to Froch's title. Before he applies further pressure on the Nottingham star, DeGale will return on November 22 in Liverpool in a stay-busy fight against Mexican veteran Marco Antonio Periban of Mexico.
Froch, who drew 80,000 fans to his May rematch with George Groves at Wembley Stadium, appears fixated on a fight in Las Vegas - preferably against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Hall of Famer Joe Calzaghe, regarded as one of the best super middleweights of all-time, gives DeGale a good shot to snatch away Froch's gold.
"If you've seen the first fight with Groves, he [Groves] could have won that fight. I think DeGale has the style to beat Carl Froch. He's slick, a slick puncher, and Froch always struggles against fighters with James DeGale's style. I think with Carl's age as well, he's not getting any younger...he's been in a lot of wars. It would be a tough fight [for Froch] and I think James DeGale has a chance," Calzaghe exclusively told BoxingScene.com. "I think Degale is a class fighter who would give him a lot of trouble."
