Joe Calzaghe: DeGale The Favorite To Beat Groves

By Mark Vester

Joe Calzaghe believes James DeGale (9-0, 7KOs) has the power to beat George Groves (11-0, 9KOs), should a fight happen between the two unbeaten 168-pounders. DeGale's promoter Frank Warren is trying to close a deal for the fight. The retired super middleweight king gives DeGale, an Olympic gold medal winner, the slight edge to win, but he doesn't give him a big advantage. Calzaghe expects Groves, being the underdog, to raise his game for the doubters.

"DeGale is an excellent fighter," Calzaghe told ESPN UK. "I think Groves is obviously a good fighter as well, so it's going to be an even match but who knows? I suppose DeGale would be the favourite if they were to fight now, but we will see. If everyone has me as underdog that is only going to give me more drive to win."
