Lightweight contender Joan Guzman (29-0, 18 KOs) made a return to the ring and won a twelve round unanimous decision over Ameth Diaz (25-7, 19 KOs) in a WBA eliminator at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Guzman used his boxing skills to outclass Diaz in every round. The scores were 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108.

Back on September 13, Guzman was scheduled to fight WBA/WBO/IBF champion Nate Campbell in a live Showtime televised main event. He was unable to make the weight, coming in at 138.5-pounds, and never returned to weigh in a second time. The fight was eventually called off a few hours before the televised event went live on the air. It caused a lot of controversy for Guzman; with Campbell losing out on a much needed payday and Showtime [and fans] being very upset with Guzman.

The Diaz bout was the first fight for Guzman since a decision win last November over Humberto Soto. He will need a few more bouts before all is forgiven by the fans and the networks.
