Promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, undefeated former world champion Joan Guzman (25-0, 17 KOs), of the Dominican Republic, challenges current WBO 130-pound champion Jorge Barrios Sept. 16 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View.

The following are quotes from Guzman from Tuesday’s national conference call:

“I feel very comfortable at 130. There comes a point in every boxer’s career where it’s difficult to get down to weight.  I feel much stronger at 130.”

“I feel strong at 130 and I believe I can bring my power with me.  Keep in mind that the opponents I’m fighting are better now, so it won’t be as easy to get a knock out.”

“It was my decision to move to 130.  I tried to stay at 126 and fight Scott Harrison, but ultimately, there were bigger names at 130, so I wanted to fight there.”

“I felt good against Javier Jauregui, but Jauregui was difficult and I know that the fights from here on out will be more difficult than that fight.  Obviously Barrios is better than Jauregui.  But I’m hungrier; I’ve been preparing for two months in Las Vegas and feel great for this fight.  There’s a chance Barrios is burned out at 130 pounds since he’s been there for so long.  He better be in good shape because I’m coming to bring it.”
