Promoter Reginaldo Kuchle, who represents featherweight Jhonny Gonzalez, called it an injustice that his fighter was not ordered to face Juan Carlos Burgos in a final eliminator to challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Elio Rojas.
The World Boxing Council ruled on Wednesday that Burgos of Tijuana will contest in a final eliminator against an opponent to be announced, and the winner gets a shot at champion Elio Rojas. Kuchle said he was in the house of WBC president Jose Sulaiman when he tried to call promoters Art Pelullo and Alex Camponovo to make a fight with Burgos. He said the fight couldn't come together, so they took an opportunity to fight for the IBO title on September 15 in Las Vegas. The WBC has held the IBO title fight against them, but earlier the sanctioning body made it appear as if there wouldn't be any issue with taking the IBO fight.
“It's the greatest injustice that I have seen in my life," said Kuchle. "To learn that Jhonny Gonzalez will not contest for the WBC featherweight title. "Johnny also won two fights and waited a long time. It was they who refused to fight, even when I offered $25,000 to start, but now to make it appear to the public that Jhonny didn't want to compromise."
"It is not fair, not fair. In my life I have never seen such unfairness. They [the WBC] removed Jhonny twice, and now they want to leave him out, and it's not fair. I want to make it perfectly clear to everyone that it's not true that Jhonny did not want to fight. I think they had plan to keep us out and now they want to make it like we are to blame, but that is a lie."
