Promoter Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo has revealed that undefeated Clive Atwell (12-0-1, 7KOs) of Guyana would be the challenger for World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Jhonny González (55-8, 47KOs) on May 24th in Acapulco, Mexico. Atwell has knocked out seven of his last eight opponents, who were far below the level of Gonzalez. This will be his first fight outside of Guyana.

It will be Gonzalez's first defense since winning the belt with an upset first round knockout of Abner Mares from last August in Carson, California. They were scheduled to have a rematch in February and then Mares withdrew with a rib injury. There is a rematch clause, but it appears Mares is heading in another direction.
