According to Hector Soto, Vice President of Miguel Cotto Promotions, he is trying to secure another world title shot for featherweight contender Jayson Velez (22-0-1, 16KOs), who is trained by Abel Sanchez. Velez recently fought to a draw with undefeated IBF champion Evgeny Gradovich on November 29th in Omaha.
Soto is talks with Promociones del Pueblo, who promoter WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez (57-8, 48KOs) of Mexico. The two sides are discussing a potential fight for a date in either February of March. Soto is also in talks with Top Rank about a potential Gradovich rematch.
"He should be fighting earlier this year for a world title. We've made the approach to get Jhonny Gonzalez or perhaps a rematch with Gradovich. We are already talking with the promoters of both and have everything well under way," Soto told ESPN Deportes.
