WBC featherweight Champion Jhonny Gonzalez wants to follow the starlit trail blazed by his gym teammate, Juan Manuel Marquez, by writing another glorious page in boxing history, Aztec style. Both fighters are trained by Hall of Fame coach Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain. This Saturday he defends his title against Gary Russell Jr. at The Palms in Las Vegas.
“Some time ago, I was inspired by Juan Manuel Marquez. He accomplished some of his greatest achievements during the latter part of his career, so why can't I do it too? Right now, I'm living out some of my greatest moments, and that's why I'm so enthusiastic. This training camp has been great and I am going to prove it on Saturday against Gary Russell Jr."
"This year I have been offered great and important fights, which will allow me to make some good sums of money, and that also motivates me a lot."
To reach his goals, Jhonny will utilize and channel the exceptional experience and the genius of his legendary, brilliant and wily trainer Beristain. He also reveals:
"Another key is that I've also included a new physical trainer, a new nutritionist, a motivator and a doctor. I have been working with them for three months at the gym. I am feeling even stronger and much faster."
