The World Boxing Association Championships Committee is attentive to the news that has surfaced regarding the possible HBO televised fight between Jason Sosa, who is currently the "regular" super featherweight champion of the sanctioning body, and WBO world champion Vasyl Lomachenko.
However, no official communication has yet been received by the WBA.
If this match is goes through as planned in April, then WBA would act in accordance with the regulations and allow Jezreel Corrales, the 130-pound super champion of the sanctioning body, to make an optional defense.
If you recall, both WBA champions were notified in the middle of last year that they should carry out a confrontation between them to unify their titles and establish as single WBA world champion at 130-pounds.
Nevertheless, the Committee of Championships granted to Sosa, in the month of August, special permission to face Gervanta Davis with the condition that his next fight will be staged with whoever holds the WBA's "super" championship.
However, the fight with Davis never happened and Sosa instead fought faced Stephen Smith and won that optional defense by unanimous decision last November. Corrales also took an optional defense, in December, and won a twelve round split decision over former champion Takashi Uchiyama.
