Jeyvier Cintron will remain on the Subriel Matias-Dalton Smith undercard this weekend, though now against a new opponent.

Mexico’s Jonathan Gonzalez, 25-2-1 (17 KOs), is no longer able to move forward with his planned clash versus Puerto Rico’s Cintron, 13-1 (6 KOs), after running into issues attempting to obtain a P-1 visa. Their previously scheduled 10-round bantamweight contest was due to serve on the Matias-Smith PPV.com show this Saturday from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“Unfortunately, my [fight] this coming Saturday January 10th in Brooklyn is cancelled for reasons beyond my control,” Rodriguez confirmed via social media. “Unfortunately, I did not receive my visa on time and therefore I will not be able to attend my engagement.
“My promoter is already negotiating the next date and therefore we're ready for what's coming, thank God.”

BoxingScene has confirmed that Cintron will now face Tijuana’s Victor Efrain Sandoval, 38-5 (24 KOs).

The late switch allows Cintron to return to the ring for the first time in more than a year.

Cintron, a two-time Olympian (2012 London, 2016 Rio) for Puerto Rico, has not fought since a November 2024 points win over Rashib Martinez in Bayamon, P.R. The victory was his second in a row upon his return to the ring to end a four-and-a-half-year hiatus following his December 2019 defeat to then-WBO 115lbs titlist Kazuto Ioka in Tokyo, Japan.

Sandoval represents a more active opponent than would have been the case with San Luis Potosi’s Rodriguez, who hasn’t fought since July 2023.

However, he’s suffered defeats in two of his past three starts – both at flyweight - and the one win came versus a walkover opponent last April in Rosarito, Mexico.

Sandoval was previously outpointed by then-unbeaten Yankiel Rivera on a June 2025 card in Manati, P.R. that featured Cintron’s ring return. Prior to that, he was competitive in a 10-round, unanimous decision defeat to Ricardo Sandoval (no relation) in October 2023. Ricardo Sandoval is now the unified WBA/WBC flyweight titleholder.

Cintron-Sandoval is the only change to Saturday’s lineup. The rest of the seven-fight card moves forward in its original form, including the attractive headliner where Matias, 23-2 (22 KOs), risks his WBC 140lbs title against Sheffield’s Smith, 18-0 (13 KOs), the mandatory and first-time title challenger.
