A solid, action fight in the pay-per-view opener. …
Accompanied into the ring by his Hall of Fame father, Shane Mosley Snr, Mosley Jnr 22-4 (12 KOs), met Casa Grande, Arizona’s Jesus Ramos Jnr, 23-1 (19 KOs), in a middleweight bout for the WBC interim belt.
The southpaw Ramos snapped a quick left to the head in the first, with Mosley responding with two good rights. Ramos came back with two rights of his own.
The outcome could sway Ramos to make 160lbs his permanent home after previously fighting at junior middleweight. Ranked No. 5 behind titleholder Carlos Adames – a PBC product – Ramos also could move toward PBC’s 42-year-old WBA belt holder Erislandy Lara, who will be fighting next.
Mosley penetrated Ramos’ guard effectively in the second, but Ramos, 24, appeared to solve Mosley with three power shots to the head that jarred the champion’s son.
Following a narrow loss to Erickson Lubin in 2023, Ramos rallied with three consecutive TKO victories, never losing a round.
In the fourth, however, Mosley backed Ramos to the ropes with consecutive power rights to the head.
Mosley rocked Ramos again with rights in the fifth, as the Arizonan answered with a right-hook, power-left combination.
“It’s going to be a long night, but that was your round,” Mosley Snr told his son in the corner.
