Looks like unbeaten welterweight Jessie Vargas will return to the ring on August 3rd, Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman told Boxingscene.com on Monday morning.

Goodman told Boxingscene.com that Vargas will likely appear on the fight card that will be headline Julio Cesar Chavez’s return to the ring. The card will likely land in Mexico City, although no venue has been announced.

Top Rank will promote the card and will like be an HBO “Boxing After Dark” telecast.

Goodman did not specify on who Vargas will face.

The 24-year-old Vargas is coming off a hard-fought 10 round unanimous decision over Wale Omotoso on March 16th in Carson, CA. The bout was a matchup of unbeaten welterweights that preceded the Timothy Bradley-Ruslan Provodnikov main event bout that evening.

Vargas (22-0, 9 KOs) is trained by Roberto Alcazar, famous for training Oscar De La Hoya years ago.

Vargas, who lives and trains in Las Vegas, has won his last six bouts in a row by decision.
