Since winning the vacant WBO welterweight title on March 5th by halting Sadam Ali in nine rounds in Washington DC, Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10KOs) is suddenly in the conversation for some big fights.
"Absolutely, Jessie's interested in fighting anybody and he's always been that way, anywhere, any place, any time,"said his manager Cameron Dunkin to BoxingScene.com.
Two names that have been brandied about are Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez.
A Cotto fight will most likely have to come at a catchweight, given that the Puerto Rican star was recently campaigning as a smallish middleweight.
Dunkin stated,"Jessie said if the weight was somewhere close between 147, which means somewhere in the middle which means '54 and '47, I think Jessie would entertain fighting at that weight."
Then there is Marquez, who has made it clear in the past that he would like to cap his Hall-of-Fame career by winning a welterweight title once again.
"That was something that was very serious right after he won the title, everyone was talking about it and I thought that was something they were going to move on but I haven't heard anything since then. But he'd like to fight him also," said Dunkin.
