Last month, the February 29th welterweight showdown pitting former 4-division champion Mikey Garcia and 2-division champion Jessie Vargas was formally announced.  The fight will top a DAZN streamed card live from the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.

The 30-year-old Vargas' last fight took place at a catchweight of 151 pounds.  The Las Vegas resident planned on moving up to 154 in his next fight but rumored bouts against Jaime Munguia and Liam Smith failed to materialize.

"I dropped and hurt Dulorme last time I fought at 147.  It just has become tougher to make at this point in time," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.

Garcia's last fight was his first in the welterweight and didn't go as hoped for the Southern California based fighter.  He lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Errol Spence at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Vargas expects a packed stadium for their Mexican-American battle.  While he may not be known for his power the way Spence is, Vargas believes he will earn Garcia's respect early on in the fight.

"I will make sure that Garcia feels my power.  that is for sure. The crowd should be great. I expect a sellout on February 29th," Vargas stated.
