To the surprise of no one, it didn’t take long for Jermell Charlo to grow agitated with the questions he was forced to field during a recent live fan chat.
In fairness to the two-time and reigning junior middleweight titlist, the session would’ve gone far smoother had online participants realized which twin was playing host on the Premier Boxing Champion (PBC) Facebook fan page.
Things went much smoother once Charlo was able to push through a sea of middleweight questions more befitting his twin, 160-pound titlist Jermall Charlo. As the discussion finally made its way to the junior middleweight division, the current World Boxing Council (WBC) title claimant was emphatic with his desire to clean house.
“I slept [previously unbeaten mandatory challenger Erickson] Lubin. I’ll put J-Rock [former unified titlist Julian Williams] to sleep,” Charlo (33-1, 17KOs) insisted while reading the names offered during the chat, although stopping well short of running off his own wish list. “What, y’all want me to sit here and name names? Man, f--k them dudes.”
Charlo suffered his lone career loss in his first fight with Tony Harrison, dropping a highly disputed 12-round decision in their Dec. 2018 clash. The setback ended his 2 ½ year title reign, though he was able to create a new chapter following a revenge fueled 11th round knockout of Harrison in their furiously-paced rematch last December.
The feat came at a time when the division underwent a complete facelift. By that point, previously unbeaten and unified titlist Jarrett Hurd was upset by Williams, who in his first defense was stopped in five rounds by Jeison Rosario this past January.
All but Harrison remain on his radar for the simple fact that he’s yet to face any of the other three and they all reside in his weight division. He's even willing to welcome back some unbeaten former 154-pound champs should they seek the opportunity.
“I’ll get rid of all of them dudes [at 154 pounds] if they put me in there with them,” vows Charlo (33-1, 17KOs). “I’m talking if Jaime Munguia came back, if [two-division and current 160-pound titlist Demetrius] Andrade… hey, for all y’all morons and idiots and lame ass motherf--kers that don’t understand boxing, I tried to fight all these motherf--kers. I tried to fight Andrade in ’14, he pulled out of that fight and now y’all trying to say that we ducking.
“Cut that Andrade sh-t out. They offer me a check right now for him to come down to ’54, I’m knocking that bitch out.”
