NEW YORK – Daniel Jacobs just wanted to make sure Jermall Charlo really doesn’t think Jacobs is ducking him.

That’s why Jacobs confronted Charlo late Saturday night at Barclays Center, where Charlo was discussing fighting Jacobs with several reporters following Deontay Wilder’s knockout of Luis Ortiz. Jacobs was walking by, but stopped to interrupt the interview and asked Charlo what he meant when discussing Jacobs in an interview with FightHype.com that was posted Friday.

Jacobs responded to Charlo’s quotes in that interview with a Tweet he sent out Friday night. In it, the former WBA middleweight champ assured Charlo that he is more than willing to fight the undefeated middleweight contender from Houston.

“I came at the perfect time,” a smiling Jacobs said as he walked toward Charlo, who later Tweeted that Jacobs approaching him was an act. “I came at the perfect time. I’m just trying to figure out what we’re doing. We’re gonna play back and forth, over Twitter. You’re saying I’m ducking you to go on HBO? Bro, you ain’t even touch an M yet. I’m touching Ms. That’s why I made my way to HBO. I know you’re gonna or probably get it.”

Brooklyn’s Jacobs, 31, referred to seven-figure paydays.

He made more than $3 million to fight Gennady Golovkin last March 18 at Madison Square Garden. Jacobs also signed a multimillion-dollar agreement last fall to fight exclusively on HBO.

Thus far, the 27-year-old Charlo hasn’t made $1 million or more for one of his fights.

Charlo clarified to Jacobs that he hasn’t said Jacobs is ducking him.

“I ain’t never said you ducked me,” Charlo told Jacobs. “They asked, ‘Do you wanna fight Danny?’ Why not? Why not? You’re one of the big names.”

Jacobs responded by telling Charlo that they’ll eventually fight.

“We don’t need to go back and forth,” Jacobs said. “I just wanna make it clear. I’m hearing people saying you said, ‘Pull up.’ What pull up mean? I don’t know what that means. All right, so let me take care of [Maciej Sulecki]. This is why I’m confused. Because you know my rap sheet. You know what I’m about. I’m gonna see you.”

Charlo and Jacobs shook hands before Jacobs walked away from the scrum.

“You know what I’m about,” Charlo said. “You know. You know it. You know it. You know it.”

Charlo took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to address their exchange.

“The sh*t was a whole act,” Charlo wrote in a Tweet. “They tell us to stay calm and professional then this mf walk up talkin sh*t. Once it go sour they say we don’t have class.”

Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs) was supposed to fight Hugo Centeno Jr. on Saturday night for the WBC’s interim middleweight title. Centeno (26-1, 14 KOs, 1 NC), of Oxnard, California, postponed their bout the previous week because he suffered a rib injury during training.

The Charlo-Centeno contest has been rescheduled for April 21 at Barclays Center (Showtime).

Jacobs (33-2, 29 KOs) will headline another card at Barclays Center a week later. He’ll oppose Poland’s Sulecki (26-0, 10 KOs) in a 12-rounder HBO will televise April 28.

Jacobs-Charlo is one of the most intriguing fights that could be made among middleweights. Both boxers seek bigger paydays, though, for fights against Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) or Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), who’ll meet in a middleweight championship rematch May 5 in Las Vegas.

“If Jacobs wanna fight, let’s fight,” Charlo said before Jacobs arrived late Saturday night. “Let’s skip this Centeno fight. You ain’t gotta take yo next fight, either. They think my opponent is whatever he is, and they think his opponent is whatever. Let’s skip that sh*t. Let’s get to the bad.

“Ain’t nobody gonna be walkin’ around with my name in they mouth. I’m about that sh*t. You wanna fight, let’s fight. … I’ll go to HBO, I’ll go to the UK. I’ll say, ‘Eddie Hearns, what up?’ I got the best manager in the world. They gonna make that sh*t happen. Trust me. I’m wit it. I’m don’t matter. I’m wit it. We both Al Haymon. Whatever. Man, I’m not here to discuss another man. It’s about me.”
