According to the Arkansas News Bureau, former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor was involved in a verbal altercation with his mother on a busy street in Maumelle, Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon. Nothing physical was observed but the verbal battle had enough tension to generate several 911 calls to the local authorities, who came to the scene but Taylor had left before they arrived.

According to police, witnesses said Taylor, 32, driving a a black Mercedes, caught up with a white van driven by his mother, Carlois Taylor, at the corner of Odom and Maumelle Boulevards, one of the city’s busiest streets. While the two were outside their vehicles arguing, Taylor apparently threw his mother’s car keys on the side of the road.

Authorities will continue to investigate the incident. After nearly two years away from the sport, Taylor recently announced his return to boxing in the summer.
