Australian school teacher Jeff Horn (14-0-1, 9KOs) who is rated WBO number 4 in the world was quick to call out Jessie Vargas once he learned of the news of Kell Brook now being scheduled to face Gennady Golovkin in September.
The Hornet as he is affectionately known to his fans has blasted his way into contention having defeated 6 top 15 rated opponents in just 15 fights, a feat not many can show on their resume. In Horns last outing he stopped former 2 division and 3 time world champion Randall Bailey in 7 rounds.
Speaking from his hometown in Queensland Australia he had this to say on a showdown with the current WBO Champion - "While I respect Jessie for his ability and achievements to date, I know given the opportunity I can give him a boxing lesson."
Horn's take was a sentiment echoed by arguably the best boxer Australia has produced in 3 division champ ‘Jeff Fenech’ who said:
‘Without a doubt Jeff is the most exciting fighter to come out of Australia since Kostya Tszyu and myself graced the ring. He would give anyone in the division a hard fight and I am tipping him to be Australia’s next boxing superstar.
Horns Promoter Dean Lonergan of Duco Events said we will get a message to Top Rank over the weekend and declare Jeff available for later in the year and see where it goes from there. This makes for an exciting fight and one I am sure the broadcasters would love. Jeff has a crowd pleasing style and this one would have the fans sitting on the edges of their seat guaranteed!
