At the Houston Club in downtown Houston, Texas, ring veteran and Colombian native Juan Carlos Candelo (29-10-4, 20 KOs) emphatically defeated popular local club fighter Chase "White Tiger" Shields. Shields (29-3-1, 14 KOs) started the fight well, taking the first two rounds and scoring a knockdown in the 3rd round with a punch to Candelo's temple which dropped him in ugly fashion. Once he recovered his equilibrium, Candelo took over the rest of the third round and the rest of the fight battering Shields through the 5th, 6th and 7th stanzas culminating in a seventh round knockdown. With Shields taking heavy punishment and not answering back, his corner would not allow him to continue for the eighth round and a TKO victory was declared.
After the bout, Candelo dedicated the fight to his wife and challenged Julio Caesar Chavez, Jr. to a match. Candelo now lives and trains in Baytown, TX with trainer Juan Lopez.
The historic and majestic ballroom hosted the third boxing card of Lou Savarese's promotion as he continues to establish himself as a major player in the city's boxing landscape while giving back opportunities to the area's young talent.
