A source has told BoxingScene.com that a bout between WBA super featherweight titlist, Javier Fortuna and Yuriorkis Gamboa is being discussed. It would be part of a two-fight deal that would see the two square off in the early summer.
Fortuna (29-0-1, 21 KO's) won this title by defeating Bryan Vasquez by way of a twelve round unanimous decision on May 29th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and then defended returned successfully on September 29th at the Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas to stop Carlos Velasquez in ten rounds.
The talented Gamboa (25-1, 17KOs) just recently won a ten round decision over Hylon Williams on December 19th at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona in what was his only outing of 2015. Gamboa, an Olympic gold medal winner and former world champion, has only fought four times since 2012 and twice since suffering his first career defeat, a TKO in nine to then WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford.
