LAS VEGAS – Amid an entertaining back-and-forth on social media over who possesses and who will sign a fight contract, unified middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly can take comfort in the fact that he has a secured fight date and venue.
WBO and IBF titleholder Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10 KOs) is booked for July 13 at The Palm in Las Vegas, a boxing official told BoxingScene on Wednesday.
Now comes the apparently more difficult part of finalizing a deal with WBC interim champion Carlos Adames (23-1, 18 KOs).
When Adames urged Alimkhanuly to send him a contract on Monday, Alimkhanuly asked Adames for a contract.
“Sign the contrac[t] take your balls and mark you[r] words,” Adames posted on X.
“Where is the contract?” Alimkhanuly responded on Monday. “Come on, be a man! Send me the contract! I want to sign!”
Alimkhanuly posted later that day, “Now, no one will stop me. I want to show the world that you can’t joke with Janibek! I want to knock Carlos Adames out quickly!”
He added a photo of him standing atop a ring post, boasting, “I am now Carlos Adames’ nightmare,” and later posted “Forget about [WBC full champion Jermall] Charlo! Come fight me!”
Earlier Wednesday, Alimkhanuly followed a post that read, “You started this war, now I will end it,” by pressing him with, “Don’t be afraid.”
Adames has indicated there has been a contract sent to Alimkhanuly’s promoter, Top Rank, posting, “Ask your promoter. He knows. Ask them … the ball is in your side.”
Kazakhstan’s Alimkhanuly added the IBF strap to his collection in October by producing a sixth-round TKO of Vincenzo Gualtieri while former Top Rank product Adames, of the Dominican Republic, claimed the WBC’s interim belt with a ninth-round TKO of Julian Williams in June.
