The Olympic gold medalist at featherweight from the 1952 Games in Helsinki, Jan Zachara, has passed away at the age of 96.

Zachara became a national champion in 1946 but was not allowed to go to the 1948 Games in London due to politics. However, in 1952, representing Czechoslovakia, he went 5-0 before winning the gold.

He also participated in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, where he lost in the quarterfinals.

After retiring he became a coach in Slovakia, where lived all his life.
