Jamie Cox has been released from prison after successfully winning an appeal against his conviction.
The former WBO European super middleweight champion was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail for common assault last month.
Cox was handed the sentence after he attacked his ex-partner Viktoria Gribovskaja at her home in Lambeth, south London last year.
After being sentenced, Cox, who appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court under his real name Jamie Russan, appealed the decision to convict him of assault by beating, violence to secure entry, harassment and criminal damage.
Swindon-based Cox won his appeal but was told that his prison sentence would be suspended for 18 months, despite the conviction still standing.
As well as the 26 weeks for harassment, he was sentenced to 20 weeks for violence to secure entry and 12 weeks for criminal damage, to run concurrently.
The recorder in court, Joseph Boothby, said that the 29-year-old should treat the appeal victory as a “turning point” and said: “Change your ways and think before you get angry with a girlfriend, or anyone else for that matter.”
After the appeal win, Cox said: “I just want to get back to normal and to fight for world titles. I do not really treat today as a success.”
