Jamie Cox will return to action on May 21 after more than a year out of the ring.

And the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist won't be getting an easy ride when he does step through the ropes.

It will be Cox's first fight at the weight after building an unbeaten record down at welter.

The 24-year-old southpaw is 14-0 with eight stoppages after turning pro nearly four years ago.

But he's had a stop start career after six fights in his first year in the paid ranks.

Due to fight earlier this year, Cox was sidelined when his father tragically died.

Now Swindon's finest is hoping to give the city a boost after their football team was relegated to Division Two at the weekend.

And he believes a British title will be the perfect way to deliver.

Victory over Portman will push Cox in the right direction, as his opponent is a veteran of nearly 30 fights, and has 20 wins under his belt.

"Portman's been around a bit and kept decent company," said Cox. "But a good win against him will set me up nicely for a title fight later this year."

Frank Warren's This Is It show on May 21 is headlined by Nathan Cleverly's WBO light-heavyweight title fight against Jurgen Braehmer, with James DeGale against George Groves also on the card.
