Jamie Cox has had his first fight of the New Year confirmed.
The Swindon southpaw, 29, will return to the ring on February 13, live on BoxNation.
Cox (20-0, 12 KOs), the WBO European super middleweight champion, is set for action on the undercard of Terry Flanagan’s WBO lightweight title defence against Derry Mathews at the Liverpool ECHO Arena.
He’ll be on the hunt for a fourth straight opening round stoppage after getting rid of Ferenc Albert, Blas Miguel Martinez and Alastair Warren in his last three outings since returning from a 20-month hiatus in February at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton.
And as he told Boxing Scene last month, promoter Frank Warren is keen on making a fight between the number four-ranked 168lber and Commonwealth champion Luke Blackledge.
“As I go into the best year ever of my career, 2016 is scheduled to hold a number of high profile fights and the possibility of the world title challenge,” wrote former Commonwealth super welterweight ruler Cox on Facebook.
Further information regarding the undercard of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ will be revealed in due course, with a number of fights and fighters hinging on next weekend’s ‘Xmas Cracker’ card at Manchester Arena.
It is believed that, should Liam Smith get through his maiden WBO super welterweight title defence against Jimmy Kelly Jr., the Liverpudlian will also feature on the undercard.
