James Metcalf will be back in the ring again very soon.

The undefeated Liverpudlian, who last boxed at Goodison Park in May, is set to make his return next month.

Metcalf (12-0, 6 KOs) ended the challenge of Tom Knight, who slipped to 5-1-1 (1 KO) in defeat, inside a round as part of the Sky Sports-televised show that was topped by Tony Bellew’s off-the-canvas stoppage victory over Ilunga Makabu inside three rounds to claim the WBC cruiserweight world title.

And now Metcalf, the son of former champion Shea Neary who is nicknamed ‘Kid Shamrock’, will look to advance his credentials in the paid code on July 9.

The 27-year-old super-welterweight has been added to MGM Birmingham’s maiden promotion, ‘The First Of Many’, at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull.

His appearance on the bill will be flanked by bill-topper Michael Rooney (9-1, 1 KO), while there will be action for Midlands Area lightweight champion Marcus French (12-2, 3 KOs), Harry Fiaz (1-0, 1 KO), Kelcie Ball (3-0, 1 KO) –– who is also set for action on July 16 –– and ‘Buncrana Banger’ John Hutchinson (6-2-2, 1 KO).
