James DeGale says he's happy to fight British rival Callum Smith - once he has two world titles to defend.
The IBF world super-middleweight champion defends his title against mandatory challenger Rogelio Medina in Washington on April 30, live on Sky Sports.
Current WBC holder Badou Jack defends his title against Lucien Bute on the same card and if Smith (18-0-KO13) beats Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3-1-KO15) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool this Saturday, he will not only be crowned European champion, but will also be the mandatory challenger.
DeGale (22-1-KO14) has already set his sights on a unification fight in September against Jack, rather than former victim Bute, but is happy to take on Smith after that.
"Callum will get his chance after I've beaten Badou Jack or Lucian Bute," he told Sky Sports' Ed Robinson. "Then maybe we can have a domestic tear-up for two world titles. I'm easy."
DeGale labels his mandatory defence against Medina (36-6-KO30) as a "good little test" but is already making plans for the rest of the year.
However, while trainer Jim McDonnell may well want to see his his fighter unify the super-middleweight division and take on Smith in an all-British battle, he has warned the Olympic gold medalist not to look too far ahead.
"It's a banana skin," he said of the May defence. "Look at Marvin Hagler's mindset when he became world champion. James has followed that regime.
"For this fight, he's pushed himself to new levels again. I've made him do it and the next few weeks aren't going to be pretty for James."
