WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring is very confident that he can beat Carl Frampton anywhere in the world.

And that confidence is why Herring is willing to travel over to Belfast to face the Irish two-division champion in hostile territory.

The fight was being positioned for a date in May, but now it may get pushed back due to serious hand injuries that Frampton suffered in his November win over Tyler McCreery in Las Vegas.

Frampton suffered an "acute, transverse fracture" in his left hand and a "fracture through the base of the third metacarpal" on his right hand.

Because of those injuries, Herring told The Irish News: “I don’t see a fight happening in Belfast any time soon”

The Irish News believes the fight will be pushed back until June or even July, so Frampton can fully heal.

There is some talk that Herring, to stay busy, will make a defense at the Hulu Theatre in Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 15.

But the big target on Herring's radar for 2020 is Frampton.

Regardless of the fight taking place in Frampton's backyard of Belfast, Herring does not expect the judges to be unfair with the scorecards.

“I don't think it's risky and I believe that, in terms of the judging, it'll be fair,” Herring said.

“If anything I am going into a tremendous atmosphere but once the bell rings I'll tune everything out and do what I have to do.

“I'm confident I can beat him. That's why I'm taking the fight over there. It doesn't matter where the fight goes, I believe in myself and my ability and I'll get the ‘W' (win) either way.”
