Jaime Munguia will be back in the ring in July or September, according to his promoter, Fernando Beltran, after defending for the fourth time the super welterweight title of the World Boxing Organization.
This past Saturday night at Arena Monterrey, Munguia struggled to secure a majority decision win over his mandatory challenger, Dennis Hogan, in a battle that was complicated and gave some very valuable lessons to the young boxer.
In what could be his last defense of the super welterweight championship of the World Boxing Organization, he had a difficult fight against Hogan with the official scorecards reading 114-114, 115-113 and 116-112.
Jaime, who is enjoying a few days of rest, would like to return in September, but will talk to his team.
"For the time being, I want rest, reflect on some things and move on, it is always better to continue learning with a tvictory than to continue learning with a defeat, so we are going to continue on our path towards what we want," said Munguia to ESPN Deportes.
Beltran was very proud of his boxer's performance against a tough opponent.
"We obviously want to see that Jaime Munguía who destroys, who always comes out to overwhelm his opponents, but the opponent, who was number one in the world, came out to complicate the fight rather than wanting to win it. And it is logical that Munguia is a fighter with a bright future, he is barely 22 years old and he continues to learn on the road to great fights," said Beltrán.
"We are aware that we have to correct mistakes and we have time. The important thing is that there is plenty to work with, that there is talent, that Jaime knows how far he can go in this sport and I am sure he will put the name of Mexico in a high position. For now, we will see if he'll return in July or September."
