Andre Rozier, who trains Danny Jacobs (32-1, 29KOs), had some very strong opinions after seeing Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) stop Kell Brook in five rounds on Saturday from the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook, who holds the IBF welterweight title, moved up by thirteen pounds to challenge Golovkin.
"The way Kell Brook was scoring against Gennady, Danny would've tested his ability to stand on his feet," Rozier stated to BoxingScene.com.
On Friday night, Jacobs successfully defended the 'regular' version of the WBA middleweight title by stopping Sergio Mora in their rematch in seven. The WBA - which has Golovkin as their 'super' champion - has ordered these two to meet next.
Which would suit Rozier just fine but he understands the impediments that stand in the way of this fight coming to fruition.
"Listen, I don't control the powers that be, you know the deal but I could tell you this much - we are ready to go," Rozier said.
Rozier said based on what he saw on Saturday,"I think the combinations that were scored upon 'Triple G' tonight, from my athlete would've definitely stopped him. He definitely would've been on his ass for sure."
His hope is that they get a chance to show this later this year. According to Jacobs, he plans to return on a date in December at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
"I'd like to have this fight next," said Rozier. "If the political entities could clean the waters, lets get it on."
