Brooklyn, New York- As soon as WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Danny Jacobs (30-1, 27 KO’s) notched his victory over Sergio Mora - the names of Peter Quillin, Gennady Golovkin, and the other top crop of the middleweight division was being mentioned to Jacobs as potential foes in 2015. Jacobs hopes he can get Quillin in Brooklyn before the end of the year.
“Our biggest fan bases are in Brooklyn,” Jacobs said about a fight with Quillin. “No other fight do I hear about most than Kid Chocolate at the Barclays Center, friendship or not. I’m tired of fighting these guys, I want to step up like people want me to step it.”
Jacobs hold the ‘regular’ version of the WBA middleweight title and since Quillin doesn’t have a title, Jacobs feels he’s the A-side of the equation.
“I wouldn’t say Quillin is avoiding me but I don’t think its maybe in his plans at that particular point,” explained Jacobs. “I’ve had two fights already. I’m on the A-side because I’m the champion. Now that I’m the champion all the playing field is on my side.”
The ‘super’ WBA middleweight champion is Golovkin, who also holds the IBO title. But like most people, Jacobs knows the politics of the sport.
“For the PBC middleweights, it’s hard to make a fight with those on the other side,” said Jacobs. “We’re not scared of Triple G. “I can’t control Oscar (De La Hoya) or Bob (Arum) or any of the other promoters not wanting to work with PBC [Premier Boxing Champions]. If I had an opportunity to fight Golovkin, I’d love it. Haymon made Mayweather-Pacquiao happen so anything is possible. The middleweight division is one of the hottest divisions right now. A fight with Chris Eubank would be good too."
