WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) feels a little disrespected by his next opponent - WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).
The fight is scheduled to take place on March 18th from New York's Madison Square Garden. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the fight.
There is talk that Golovkin and his team are looking not one fight, but two fights ahead.
Golovkin's team has been trying to finalize a deal for a fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez for September. And now there is talk of a possible June unification with WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders.
Jacobs is a very big underdog, according to the oddsmakers. According to Jacobs, being the underdog has given him even more motivation to win the fight.
"He is wrong to underestimate me and I hope to make him pay for his mistake," threatened Jacobs to ESPN Deportes.
"I think it's fair that he is marked as the favorite, and I recognize that there is no way that this fight will be seen in any other way. So I understand that I am considered the alleged underdog, but that only produces additional motivation to obtain a result in my favor. To emerge victorious against an opponent who is a favorite by 8-1 would be a tremendous story."
Jacobs will be looking to expose Golovkin's weaknesses when they step in the ring. He won't reveal his secrets to success, but feels confident of coming through on top.
"With all of the attributes that he has, we are sure that we will also be able to find certain weaknesses in him. And the key to defeating him is precisely to explore those weak points, trying to minimize his strengths and being able to perform in the fight with everything that I know how to do well. I consider myself a natural athlete, a boxer who has power. Also, I am a boxer who knows how to think inside the ring," Jacobs said.
"I can't tell you how I'm going to beat him right now, but I will show you in the ring."
