Brooklyn, New York - In his second go around with trainer John David Jackson on December 5th, former WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri (21-2, 8KOs) was again aggressive, on the front foot, and going to the body in his bout with Erick Bone. Algieri win a decision over Bone and his coach was satisfied with his performance.

“He fought a smart fight,” Jackson said on Algieri’s performance. “He fought a kid who was coming for the fight of his life so I am happy with the way he fought. There are some things we got to work on still but overall happy with his performance.”

Jackson says that although Algieri isn’t known as a power puncher, when Algieri sits on his punches his power is solid.

"When he (Algieri) gets excited he rushes his shots and doesn’t sit down on his punches,” Jackson said. "He can punch, he’s not a knockout one punch power guy but he has decent power especially to the body. His stamina and workrate wears guys down too. He’s a lot more aggressive, he goes to the body a lot more. He needs to move his head a little but more.”

Promoter Lou Dibella told the media that he would love to match Algieri in his next fight with former welterweight world champion Andre Berto, but Jackson feels he needs one more camp before Algieri gets in there with the bigger names.

“I rather fight somebody else, not that I don’t think we can beat Berto but I think we need one more fight under our belt and then we can go after Berto.”
