The last time James DeGale fought, he had some difficult moments with Rogelio “Porky” Medina. The next person DeGale will fight says he won’t take that into consideration.

Badou Jack was actually in the same arena that April night in Washington, D.C., but he wasn’t able to see Medina’s fight until afterward. That’s because Jack was warming up to be the main event of the card, defending his super middleweight title, retaining it but being robbed in a draw with Lucian Bute. DeGale outpointed Medina. Their unification bout will take place Jan. 14 on Showtime

“I scored it a draw,” Jack told BoxingScene.com. “It was a close fight. I think he overlooked Porky. I fought Porky, I knocked him out, so I know how tough he is. It was a good fight. But styles make fights.”

Jack took Medina out by sixth-round technical knockout in late 2013.

“Porky Medina is not a bad fighter,” Jack said. “He’s not the most skillful fighter. He punches hard. He’s very strong. He throws a lot of punches. I told everybody before the fight that it was going to be a tough fight for him [DeGale].”

But he didn’t see anything that he could take from DeGale-Medina and use for himself.

“Like I said, styles make fights,” Jack said. “I’m a different fighter. I’m more accurate. I’m stronger. I’ m a better boxer than Porky. So you can’t really go from that. I’ll just stick to my game plan and do what I got to do.”
