Trainer Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., says his nephew has no business facing WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady "GGG" Golovkin - unless the fight takes place at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds.

Golovkin and his team members have mentioned the idea of dropping down to 154-pounds to face Mayweather, who does hold the WBC/WBA titles at junior middleweight. Mayweather has not fought in a junior middleweight contest in over two years, and that fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez took place at a catch-weight of 152-pounds.

"The first thing is this, Floyd has no business fighting a guy like Golovkin. Not so much because he’s great, but if he wants to fight Floyd, why doesn’t he come down to 147-pounds? Not 154-pounds, come down to 147-pounds just like what Floyd actually fights at. Floyd fought at 154-pounds just because he had the talent to go up and beat those guys. Floyd has never fought above 149-pounds, so why would he fight a guy that’s 160-pounds?," Jeff told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .

Jeff believes some people are pushing for a fight with Golovkin because of their personal dislike for Mayweather.

"I think it’s ridiculous but that’s how it is. When you’re in a position where Floyd is, it’s not necessarily that they hate Floyd, they hate his lifestyle. They hate the fact that this guy makes money and he enjoys spending it. It’s not his fault that everybody’s in his face with a camera in his face and want to front what he’s doing," Jeff said.

"Floyd’s not fronting his money in anyone’s face, he’s just enjoying it, but people take that the wrong way. He’s not out here doing anything wrong, he’s not robbing anybody, he’s not selling drugs, he’s not doing anything. He’s earning his money, so he should have the right to do whatever the hell he wants to do with his money."
