On February 25th, rising heavyweight contender Izu Ugonoh (17-1) lost his perfect record when he was stopped by Dominic Breazeale (18-1) in five rounds. The exciting bout took place on the Deontay Wilder-Gerald Washington undercard that was broadcast by free-to-air network Fox.
Breazeale hit the canvas in the fourth round while Ugonoh was down in the third and in the fifth. It was his first fight under the Premier Boxing Champions banner.
"I expected that I was going to knock him out. I believed I would accomplish that, but he didn't surprise me with anything. I was landing some good shots to both his body and his face. Breazeale showed a lot of heart though, and I think that his experience really helped him. I think a fight like Anthony Joshua really helped him realize that he could take anything and win the fight. Honestly, I just got tired. I gave him what I had and then I got tired. When he came back at me I wasn't able to keep up and finish through on my game plan," Ugonoh said after the fight.
Ugonoh's trainer Kevin Barry told BoxingScene.com that Ugonoh's management team are looking to bring him back in June. Ugonoh, who is advised by Al Haymon, is currently in England spending time with his parents.
"I got call saying that they are looking to bring him back in June. He's visiting his parents in England but he's been running and staying in shape," said Barry who also trains WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.
"It was an exciting fight. He will learn from the experience. After Joseph's fight (on May 6th) we will bring Izu back into camp."
