According to El Nuevo Dia, a unification bout between light flyweight champions Ivan Calderon (30-0, 6KOs) of the WBO and Ulises Solis (26-1, 20KOs) of the IBF, is in the works for 2008. Opening negotiations have already begun for the bout to take place in either March or April, and both sides are open to holding the event in Puerto Rico.

The fight would match one of the best boxers in sport in Calderon, against the biggest puncher at the weight in Solis. Peter Rivera, manager of Calderon, said talks are ongoing with Top Rank (promoter of both boxers) to make the fight happen.

"We already initiated the negotiations process. Everything is in place for us to do the fight with Solís," expressed Rivera. "Already we are speaking with Top Rank and now we have to see what they decide. We have to see if Solís' team accepts the fight and when they plan to return to ring."
