WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon is already on point for his upcoming rematch with Hugo Cazares on August 30 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Calderon is said to be walking around at 109-pounds, one pound shy of the 108 limit.
Weight will be the key issue of the rematch with Cazares having all sorts of difficulties with making the light flyweight limit. He weighed 113-pounds for his last ring outing and he is scheduled to move up weight after the Calderon fight, possibly to the limit of 118-pounds.
"On Tuesday we reached the weight and today we are at 109-pounds. I have no problems with the weight," Calderon told El Nuevo Dia.
Calderon is well aware of his opponents weight issues.
"He has to be having more problems to make the weight because since he fought me, he had a fight where he aimed to make 112-pounds and came in at 113. My weight when I am walking around is like 115. You can imagine that he puts on a lot more weight than me when he is not fighting," Calderon said.
Calderon says that if Cazares is unable to make the weight, he is not sure if he will accept the fight.
"In this situation, is all depends on how much weight, the risk and whether or not it's good business. If it doesn't make sense, I prefer that the fight falls through and my fans can forgive me, but I am not going to risk my future," Calderon said.
